CBD Web Store
Web Front-End | User Research

With Charlotte Ririe and Dave Batista
Team: eo Care

Background: eo, a cannabis healthcare company, was about to launch a Shopify web store to sell their new line of CBD supplements. They needed some help with custom CSS, app module integration, and mobile optimization. Additionally, before launching their store to the public, eo wanted to put the store in front of some potential customers to get a better understand of how the store will resonate with real customers. With that knowledge, they could improve the store before launch.

Challenge:
1. Refine and optimize web store using custom CSS and app module integration.
2. How might eo further improve the web store to optimize customer experience?

Building the Web Store
I supported eo's head designer in building out the web store in Shopify. While I did build some of the pages, my main responsibilities were writing custom CSS, integrating and managing Shopify app modules, and mobile optimization.

Here are some screenshots of me doing that work:

And here are some screenshots of the finished site (shop.eo.care):

Testing the Store
Once the store was nearly complete I performed some user testing to understand how the store resonated with potential customers and develop insights for making a final round of improvements before launch.

I hopped onto my trusty Userlytics online user testing tool and built out a test. eo's first product line is targeted towards seniors, so I ran one test on people of all ages and a separate identical test on people over the age of 60. I asked questions about how the store feels to use, how they felt about the information that was presented, their purchase decision making process, and barriers to purchase. Questions were multiple choice or open-ended.

Once the answers came in I ran the numbers in excel. I also performed color-coded sentient analysis on the open-ended responses.

Synthesis
After doing all the technical analysis, I put my findings together to tell the testers' stories. I built out a slide deck and presented my findings to the CEO, Chief Experience Officer, Head Designer, and the rest of the team at an all-hands meeting. Here are some highlights of my findings.

I ended the presentation with this list of action items:

Many improvements have since been made to the store as recommended by this list.
